RT logoRoboTech srl is an academic spin-off company of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa founded in 2004. The short term mission of RoboTech srl is entertainment and educational robotics, or edutainment robotics, the long term mission is personal and service robotics.
RoboTech is a R&D company providing services for the design, the development, and the prototyping of new products in the field of service robotics. Specific competencies of RoboTech srl are in the design and development of robot visual and auditory systems, ultrasound sensory systems, embedded speech recognition and synthesis systems, embedded systems, robot control architectures, robot graphical user interfaces for PC and mobile phone, and Bluetooth communication facilities.
Among the products developed by RoboTech srl is I-Droid01 (, a programmable robot in an assembly kit, with a number of sensorial and behavioural functions, distributed worldwide by DeAgostini Editore. Thanks to I-Droid 01 RoboTech was awarded in 2008 with the "Fifth EURON/EUnited Robotics Tech-Transfer Award" as best European spin-off company operating in the field of Robotics and realising technology transfer from research and academia to industry.
RoboTech srl is located in Peccioli in the incubator for spin-off company managed by the Municipality of Peccioli, is member of the "Club of Spinoff Companies of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna" and of Europ, the European Robotics Technology Platform.


RoboTech srl is mainly involved in WP6 for the set up of outdoor robotics platforms and for the design and implementation of the services of the outdoor scenario, i.e. garbage collection at home, guiding people and goods transportation.


RoboTech has been/is partner of the many EU funded research projects in the field of service robotics: DustBot (Networked and Cooperating Robots for Urban Hygiene, FP6-045299, 2006-2009), URUS (Ubiquitous Networking Robotics in Urban Settings, FP6-045062, 2006-2009), and Hydronet (Floating Sensorised Networked Robots for Water Monitoring, FP7 212790, 2009-2011) co-funded by the European Commission in the 6th and 7th framework programme.
The DustBot project aimed at designing, developing, and demonstrating an innovative system based on robotic and information and communication technologies for the improvement of the management of urban hygiene. From June 2010 to August 2010, RoboTech srl managed also the experimentation of the DustCart robot, the first outdoor service robot tested with real users: two DustCart robots were installed and extensively tested for two months in a real scenario and with real users in the city centre of Peccioli, a small historical village in the countryside of Tuscany.
The URUS project aimed at designing and implementing a network of robot for the urban environment for guiding and transportation of people. Within the URUS project RoboTech srl was involved in the design and development of the HRI component of the urban robot.

Nicola Canelli, Managing Director of RoboTech srl  
He graduated in Electronics Engineering at the University of Pisa. From 2002 to 2004 he was research assistant at the ARTS Lab (Advanced Robotics Technology and Systems Laboratory) of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Pisa, in the sectors of domotics, assistive technology and biomedical robotics. From2004 he is cofounder and Managing Director of RoboTech srl.

Giancarlo Teti, R&D manager at RoboTech srl.    
He graduated in Computer Science at the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1996, and he received the Ph.D. in Biomedical Robotics in 2002 from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. From 1996 to 2005 he was with the ARTS Lab of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. Since 2005 he is R&D Manager at RoboTech srl. His research interests are in the field of robot control architectures and bio-inspired schemes for sensory motor control of robots. Main application areas are Personal Robotics, Service Robotics and Humanoid Robotics.

Francesco Bartaloni, Mechanical Engineer at RoboTech srl   
He graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pisa, Italy, in 2004 and he received the Ph.D. in Land Vehicles in 2007 from the University of Pisa. Since 2007 he his Mechanical Engineer at RoboTech srl. His competencies are in the mechanical design of robot. He has been involved in the EU funded research projects DustBot, URUS, and with technical responsibilities.

Paolo Messina, Technical Manager at RoboTech srl    
He graduated in Computer Engineering at the University of Pisa, Italy, in 2003. In 2003 he was visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States. Since 2004 he his Software Developer and Technical Manager at RoboTech srl. His competencies are in the design of embedded system and firmware development, design and development of embedded voice control system, and software programming.

Luca Volpi, Electrical Engineer at RoboTech srl    
He graduated in Electrical Engineering at the University of Pisa, Italy, in 2009. Since 2011 he his Electrical Engineer at RoboTech srl. His competencies are in the design and development of embedded system and firmware development.
