Prototypes and facilities already available

Research in Robot-Era will make use of already available prototypes and robotic platforms, provided by the Robot-Era partners, and others purchased from European companies, which will be adapted and optimized for the Robot-Era services and for usability and acceptability by elderly people.

 Hardware and facilities that will complement the EC contribution for Robot-Era

SSSA The SSSA laboratories, including some facilities in Peccioli, will support the Robot-Era activities. Among them, the so-called DomoCasa domotic apartment will be used for the trials of domestic services in Robot-Era.
The ASTROMOBILE robot is one of the platform that will be used in the developmental and experimental activities of Robot-Era. It is based on the SCITOS G5 platforms and has several sensory systems, like cameras, US sensors, a laser scanner, localization system, and communication modules. SSSA can also make available to the project sensors and systems for integrated assistive environments.
 ORU 
 
ORU will provide Robot-Era with the PEIS Home facilities for sensor/actuator development.
 UHAM Taser robotUHAM will provide the robot TASER that will be used only in the initial developmental activities of Robot-Era. TASER is the main research platform of group TAMS from UHAM. It is mainly used for delivery tasks in home and office environments with its sub-tasks like human interaction, localization, object detection and grasping. The robot system features a mobile platform with differential drive and wheel encoders, two laser range finders and is controlled by an industrial computer PC. Different sensor and actuator systems as well as control strategies can be tested with the robot platform
 UOP iCubUOP will provide the humanoid platform iCub for the initial developmental activities of Robot-Era. UOP will perform initial developmental activities on language and manipulation learning and integration with the humanoid platform iCub. The results of these robotic studies will then be adapted to the shared test platform.
MLAB ScitosG5MLAB will provide Robot-Era with two mobile robotic platforms for developmental and implemental activities of the Robot-Era services. SCITOS G5 is adaptable to almost every application in an indoor environment. It handles payloads of up to 50 kg (110 Ibs) without curtailing the driving performance. The centre of gravity of the 60 kg (130 lbs) platform is very low. So, besides standard components like laser range finders or cameras, it is possible to install robot arms, touch displays or our unique robot head. Everything with the same mobile base. The accessibility of mechanical and electrical interfaces helps to change the platform according to Robot-Era needs.
 RT DustCartRoboTech will provides CAD/CAM/CAE systems for mechanic and electronic design, software development environments for software and firmware implementation, other laboratory equipments such as welding stations, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc. for assembly and testing electronic boards, and a 3D printer for rapid prototyping in ABS of mechanical components.
Two DustCart robot will be used in the developmental and experimental activities of Robot-Era. They have several sensory systems, like cameras, US sensors, a laser scanner, localization system (compass, GPS), and communication modules.
 MoP MoP will provide support for realistic and real experimentation of Robot-Era scenarios. Public spaces in the centre of the town, the Ghizzano residential site, facilities used as backstage during the experimentation, etc. will be make available to the Robot-Era consortium.
